really taking hs as a serious work (i know i know) the dancestors would be a really horribly written concept, since like you said they were mostly intended more as a one-off joke than any kind of meaningful plot point. (weren't they also supposed to be a subtle/blatant insult towards the fandom? because we all know hussie loves flat out insulting his fans)

Oh the dancestors were HORRIBLY written, I don't think there's any contention about that.

#catman asks #and yes absolutely they were #kind of combinations of the distilled fanon parts of the beta characters (like with meulin and kankri; ie Shipping and Loud)#and sterotypes of certain sites and subcultures?#(ie porrim is Feminist Tumblr; Kankri is SJW Tumblr; Meulin is Fandom Tumblr)#(as it was in like 2014 anyway)#which i find to be a Weird Fucking Choice #I don't remember the contemporary details of it tbh #i really got into homestuck as the dancestors were being introduced; i didn't reach them for a while #i maintain that hussie got sick of writing So Many Characters and that's why murderstuck happened #but then later got tired of homestuck in general and was really just trying to Get It Done #i'm not far enough in my reread to tell you exactly when that might be yet #but I have a feeling it's everything leading up to The Retcon #homestuck has a lot of good stuff; but when it has bad writing It Sure Has Bad Writing
